Kick back with Jim Ellis. The Topsail Island, NC resident’s “flip-flop rock” is upbeat music with a relaxed spirit. Heartfelt lyrics, voice and mix of rock, pop and country genres often draw comparisons to Jackson Browne and James Taylor, two of his biggest influences. His piano playing style has been described as a “New Orleans Bruce Hornsby” with a touch of the blues.
Jim had been writing, performing and recording since the late 1980’s. The release of his band Waterline's 2nd album, Long Goners, features an impressive rhythm section, including Sugar Hill recording artist Sonny Landreth and his band. This rhythm section has backed up John Hiatt as “The Goners” since the late 1980’s, and Sonny’s slide guitar can be heard on recordings from Jimmy Buffett to Dolly Parton.
Jim released Just You & Me, a live studio solo recording of Jim's songs both new and old.
Since then, Jim has been performing solo, has appeared on recordings of multiple artists, and is a member of The Awkward Silents duo.
He currently splits his time between the mountains and the sea, living in his two favorite places, Boone and Topsail Island, NC.
